‘Hutteball & Oremus demonstrated their ability to be flexible in an environment of rapid changes. They take the initiative to come up with solutions even before problems develop.’

Steve Cole, Former Director of Support Services
Lake Washington School District

Students occupied the old Juanita Elementary as they watched their new school being built on their former playfield. Built on a moderate slope, Juanita Elementary takes advantage of the topography with a split-level design that transitions from a single level core facility wing to a two-story classroom wing. With a distinct entrance into the small learning communities located at the center of four classroom clusters, students are able to have space outside of the classroom for collaboration and learning. The library is the most dynamic architectural element of this facility. Dramatic wood beams and columns slope to support the roof in an almost tent-like manner. Natural light floods the library with a sense of openness while the exposed wood structure brings a sense of strength, security and visual richness.
