Stephen Murakami

Principal

Steve is a client centric leader who is committed to bringing people together to leverage best practices and resources to create student-centered educational environments. Steve began his career within K12 architecture, branched into the owner’s capital projects realm, and rounded out his experience by representing various owners across Washington. He has now come full circle back into architecture to bring the owner’s lens to the design process.

His unique experience enables him to see every project from multiple perspectives and will always seek to improve student outcomes and enrich the experiences of students, staff, and community members no matter what seat he has at the table.

On his free time, Steve is an avid golfer, mountain biker, and loving father and husband.

Recently, I had a chance to reflect on my motivations and the driving force behind my commitment to enhance K-12 learning environments. During middle school, I was often disengaged, missing 30-40 days per school year in grades 6-8. Despite being a straight-A student, I didn't feel connected to the school. An 8th-grade teacher played a crucial role in redirecting my path. For the past 26 years, my focus has been on improving learning spaces, ensuring inclusivity, and fostering a sense of belonging for all students in the schools they attend.
